9.  La donna vestita di sole – Apocalisse 12,1-6

I volti di Maria nella Scrittura

L’Apocalisse è un testo di lotta, striato dal sangue della storia, ma è anche un’opera di contemplazione avvolta in un alone di luce da cui emerge il lieto fine della storia, quando ogni lacrima sarà asciugata e la morte sarà sconfitta per sempre (21,14). Il testo appartiene al genere “apocalittico”, ricco di simboli misteriosi e di segni grandiosi e spaventosi. L’autore del testo, tuttavia, lo autodefinisce come “profezia” (1,3; 22,7.19), che nel linguaggio biblico è soprattutto interpretazione dei segni dei tempi presenti e appello di fedeltà al momento presente. L’intenzione del testo, quindi, è quella di aiutarci a vivere con speranza, ad essere ottimisti senza ignorare la sofferenza, nella certezza che il maligno non ha più potere su di noi e che l’universo è nelle mani di Dio Padre, che si prende cura instancabilmente delle sue creature.

L'Apocalypse est un texte de lutte, né par le sang de l'histoire, mais c'est aussi un travail de contemplation enveloppé dans un halo de lumière d'où émerge la fin heureuse de l'histoire, où chaque larme sera séché et la mort sera vaincue pour toujours (21,14). Le texte appartient au genre "apocalyptique", riche de symboles mystérieux et de signes grandioses et effrayants. L'auteur du texte, cependant, le définit comme "prophétie" (1,3 ; 22,7.19), qui dans le langage biblique est avant tout une interprétation des signes des temps présents et un appel de fidélité au moment présent. L'intention du texte est donc de nous aider à vivre dans l'espérance, à être optimistes sans ignorer la souffrance, dans la certitude que le malin n'a plus de pouvoir sur nous et que l'univers est entre les mains de Dieu le Père, qui prend inlassablement soin de ses créatures.

Revelation (the Apocalypse) is a book about struggle, streaked with the blood of history, but also a product of contemplation wrapped in a halo of light, from which emerges the happy ending of the story, when every tear shall be dried and death conquered forever. (21:14) This text belongs to the "apocalyptic" genre, rich in mysterious, grandiose, and frightening signs and symbols.  Nonetheless, the author of the text defines it as a "prophecy" (1:3; 22:7 and 19), which, in Biblical language is, above all, an interpretation of present signs and the call to fidelity in the present moment.  The intention of the author of the text is, therefore, that of helping us live with hope and to be optimistic while not ignoring suffering, in the certainty that the Evil One has no power over us and that the universe is in the hands of God the Father who takes care of His creatures without ever tiring.
